Where we are located
‘The Most Beautiful Bay in the Caribbean’ – James Michener
Marigot Bay is a uniquely beautiful location – one of the two most photographed places in the whole of the lovely island of St. Lucia. And the inner harbour is the most famous ‘hurricane hole’ or safe haven in a storm, in the Caribbean. It’s a special place and Rainforest Hideaway is set right into the mangroves on the waterfront – with a view across to the Superyachts on the Marina and the forested hills around. It’s often said to be more like Antibes than the Caribbean.
A Natural, National Treasure
Marigot is a conservation area, it has the longest stretch of mangroves in St. Lucia and although mangroves are not usually considered romantic, they are home to thousands of tiny fish – and some large ones too, as well as colourful crabs, herons, water-birds, giant moths, bright green lizards, crickets, tree frogs and fireflies. Fun to watch and listen to. Seeing the herons swooping for fish in the bay while you drink your evening cocktail and listen to the tropical dusk chorus tuning up is all part of the Rainforest Hideaway experience.
Getting to the Rainforest
It’s easy to get to Marigot Bay – there’s only one road and it’s the main turning off the west coast road: on the right, after La Croix Maingot if you’re coming from the north and on the left after Anse La Raye if you’re coming from the south. Once you’ve made your turn just keep going until you get right down to sea level by the Capella Hotel. Opposite the Capella porte cochere with the stone wall and crystal chandelier, where there’s a convenient (and free) car park, just a hundred metres from the dock. If you don’t want to drive we have some special taxi arrangements – see “Special Offers”.
Walk down to the dock by the Police Station and a member of the Rainforest Team, in uniform, will be waiting to greet you and make sure you take the right ferry. The only way to get to Rainforest Hideaway is by boat and you will be taking the two minute trip across the bay on Captain Bravo’s cute public ferry, with the Rainforest Hideaway sign on top. Rainforest Hideaway is on the side of Marigot Bay that doesn’t have a road, so it’s peaceful and wild and beautiful.
Arriving on the Rainforest private dock by ferry is the perfect way to begin your special evening – ‘floating into paradise’ as one guest described it after a glass or two of champagne.
Taking the Ferry
Walk down to the dock – the only way to get to Rainforest Hideaway is by boat – and you can bring your own or take the cute public ferry, run by Captain Bravo and his team 24 hours a day. Rainforest Hideaway is on the side of Marigot Bay that doesn’t have a road, so it’s peaceful and wild and relatively unspoiled.
Arriving on the Rainforest private dock on the ferry is the perfect way to begin your special evening – ‘floating into paradise’ as one guest described it after a glass or two of champagne.
Of course, you can also bring your own boat, or come by water taxi ….
Arrival by Boat
IF YOU’RE STAYING ON A BOAT IN THE INNER OR OUTER BAY, there’s plenty of dinghy parking space in the inner lagoon.
IF YOU’RE ARRIVING IN A LARGER BOAT RIGHT ONTO THE RAINFOREST DOCK, please call and let us know – we’ll keep a space for you to unload passengers on the outer dock and, depending on the boat size you may be able to leave your boat there while you have dinner. We always have to leave space for the ferry!
