The Rainforest Hideaway restaurant gardens are designed, created and lovingly maintained by William Joseph of Anse La Raye. JoJo has been working on the Rainforest Mangrove gardens since 2004 and the result is a hauntingly beautiful harmony of tropical vines, palms, blossoms and mangrove. Planting on the margin between the sea and the hillside is not an easy task because of the brackish soil and intermittent flooding. It takes skill and years of experience to select plants which will tolerate the conditions and thrive at the water’s edge. The Rainforest Gardens are still a work in progress, with traditional tropical plants such as heliconia, ginger lilies and and petrea vines mingling with the beach mahaut and papyrus reeds. |
