“The Most Beautiful Bay In The Caribbean” – James Michener

Dining on the dock in “The Most Romantic Restaurant In The Caribbean”
Romantic Rainforest Hideaway in Beautiful Marigot Bay

Back in 2004, when Rainforest first opened, it quickly became known as a fine dining venue in a uniquely beautiful over-the- water setting. Twice listed by Trip Advisor as one of the Top Ten Fine Dining Restaurants in the Caribbean, and now firmly established in the Trip Advisor Hall of Fame, Rainforest Hideaway celebrated its 12 th anniversary with a new menu and a facelift.

A roof over the bar means more space to relax before and after dinner without any raindrops falling into your rum. And instead of imitation European cuisine, we’ve introduced a new, ‘sophisticated Caribbean’ menu full of the flavours of our island, including fresh fish, local meat, a great range of local fruits, salads and vegetables and of course our home grown herbs and spices.

Our Chefs

Chefs Åsa and Michael have put together a new selection of main courses, blending the many culinary styles and influences of St Lucia into a subtle and delicious mix and match menu. The fish, meat and vegetarian dishes can be paired with the guests’ own choice of sides and sauces – a modern menu style which makes it easy for diners to design their own plates – and dip and swap with their dining companions if they want to share.

A new, ‘sophisticated Caribbean’ Menu

It’s a relaxed, less formal kind of dining, and our fixed price two and three course menu makes dining affordable. Specialities include the predatory but delicious lionfish which diners can feel good about eating – every lionfish on a plate means more local reef fish will grow to maturity. The lionfish which is hugely popular but almost impossible to find in other restaurants, is served at Rainforest in a crispy coconut crust which complements its delicate flavour.

There are still a couple of foreign favourites on the menu, including the ever popular American steak – but expect to see local ribs and pork as well as our own style of jerk chicken with a zingy sauce. It’s all very St Lucian, and the sauces are smooth and tempting – try the Rainforest version of barbeque sauce, the local fruit salsa, ginger sauce or vanilla turmeric velouté – or whatever takes your fancy. The side dishes change regularly according to what’s in the market and usually include a St Lucian Rice Pilaf and a warm baby potato salad as well as mini vegetable rotis and local organic mushrooms.

The Most Romantic Restaurant in the Caribbean?

The romantic ambience of Rainforest’s beautiful bar and restaurant still welcomes our guests. The lights reflecting in the water, the fish in the lagoon and the two minute ferry ride across the bay are all part of the atmosphere, together with the warm welcome as you step onto our dock. Children are welcome too, and a selection of simpler dishes are available for the young ones on request.

An Aquarium with a Bar Attached

If you’re not sure whether you want to stop for dinner or not, you are welcome to drop in for a drink, look at the menu and watch the huge fish in the lagoon entertaining everybody in the underwater lights. In fact the Rainforest bar, sometimes referred to as “an aquarium with a bar attached“ is an experience in itself. Tessie, our creative Bar Manager, will be waiting to tell you about tonight’s special cocktail or explain which one of the huge array of local rums on display might be to your taste.

Live Jazz Four Nights a Week

And of course, four nights a week, whether you’re sitting in the bar or the restaurant, you can listen to some of the best live jazz on the island. Whether it’s Zack Popo and Christa Bailey on Mondays, Allison Marquis and Clarence Joseph on Wednesdays, Jab Duplessis and Alphonse on Thursdays or Emerson and the Empress on Saturdays, everybody has their favourites; and Rainforest is the place to listen to some of St Lucia’s finest.

A Warm Welcome on the Waterfront

Rainforest Hideaway is more than a lovely restaurant with great food, it’s a special experience created by a dedicated team who welcome new friends as well as visitors who return year after year and, of course, the many St Lucians who drop in for romantic dinners and special celebrations. There’s no road to Rainforest and the free, two-minute ferry trip is a magical way to begin your evening escape – it feels like leaving the real world behind!

At Rainforest, we love to help you celebrate birthdays, weddings and anniversaries, but whether you’re coming for the food, the music, the atmosphere, the boat ride, or just for a fun night out with friends or family, booking your table ahead of time is always a good idea. Give us a call – we’d love to see you soon.
